Lately I have been noticing alot of people who don't seem to be able to spell simple words. I wonder if this is just because they just don't care and don't take the time to correct their errors before they send a message/letter. Or is our school system being degraded?'That's redikulos (ridiculous)' some people might say.
I recently looked at a GED book (for anyone who does not know what this is please go to this link) and noticed that you don't have to think anymore. The book is full of little paragraphs with multiple choice answers. In the old GED books, you had pages of information that you were to learn and use to be able to determine the answers to the questions asked. They also no longer have the huge list of frequently misspelled words.
It seems to me that the government just wants people to get out school and right into working because school is no longer the challenge that it used to be. People can pass without evening attending half of their classes. Most of the grads these days are happy to sit around, watch hockey, and drink beer in the time outside of their working. Thank goodness people don't have to write to get a job at McDonald's or stocking shelves. Let's hope we aren't degraded to the level of the America's, take a look at their new Math system Click here.
I also find that trying to get any higher education is very hard. I work full time and I find that I am not able to afford to live as well as go to school. Usually a student that could not afford to go to school could apply for a student load. Well it is no longer called a student loan, the new service is call BC Student Aid. To start the application process you are asked two questions: Have you ever claimed bankruptcy? Do you have a full time job during your study period?
I answered No and Yes respectively and I was immediately told that I did not qualify for assistance. I live in Vancouver, the cost of living is Astronomical! Recently McLeans magazine wrote an article about the most Dangerous Cities in Canada, New Westminster is listed as number 3 for highest murder rates, number 9 for auto theft, and 7th for robbery. To get a Single bedroom apartment in this crack infested city is about $800 a month.
So for an average person who makes about $15 an hour is only taking home about $2000 after taxes, 40% of your hard earned money is just for rent. The minimum wage in this high priced city of Vancouver is $8 an hour, and most jobs do not offer full time so that they do not need to offer benefits. Most people can't even afford to live on their own, they must has roommates Then there are the other expenses such as vehicle, food, hydro, phone, internet, etc. Please tell me how a person only making about $15 dollars an hour is able to go to school full time without a job or afford to go to school while paying bills? To get an MBA through online program, the classes are about $1500 each and there are 5-7 of those classes that you need to take. They want us to be dumb slaves, working full time, living from cheque to cheque, so that we are in a constant state of dependency. If you try to get out of that dependency or get a higher education you need to get a loan through a bank or use your credit cards, which they then make incredible amounts of money on the interest that you pay. Then when you are finished your classes, you are then ready to pay this large debt that you have accumulated.
It feels like a never ending circle of despair. Everyone is apathetic and discouraged. You work from Cheque to cheque, giving your life and money over to large corporations and it just keeps going and going. Then if you try to escape you enter into a large debt that you will spend years paying off so that your life is almost over by the time out get out. We need to stand up and fight for proper education and reasonably priced higher education. We shouldn't be placed in a constant state of dependency.
